Meet Ikem!

Meet 15-year-old Ikem! Ikem was born a healthy little boy, but when he was a toddler, he choked on a grape and lost oxygen and was in the ICU for two months. The accident caused Ikem to have brain damage and he had to completely relearn to walk and talk. While he is still mostly non-verbal, he uses sign language to communicate. He still requires a wheelchair for long distances due to weak muscle strength in his legs.

Despite Ikem’s challenges, he remains a charming and caring young man. He enjoys watching his favorite movies, Shrek and Angry Birds, and listens to music by his favorite artist, Ariana Grande! Recently, he joined an adaptive soccer league. Ikem enjoys art, especially drawing, and loves to play with games such as Connect 4. He also loves to share his collection of Pokemon items. Ikem is loving and curious about the world around him and starts each new day with a positive outlook!

Ikem received a Rifton therapy bike. This bike will help improve his muscle strength, coordination, and awareness of his surroundings. Riding an adaptive bike will provide him with cardiovascular activity and a fun and safe activity he can participate in with his family and his peers. Special thanks to his generous sponsor, Alice Kliberg Reynolds!
