Meet 3-year-old Mateo. Mateo was born with Spina Bifida – a condition that occurs when the spine and spinal cord don’t form properly. He also suffers from Hypotonia. These conditions require him to use a wheelchair for all of his mobility needs. He is described as playful, happy and charming.
Mateo thrives in a moving environment. He enjoys fast movements such as spinning objects. He also loves to watch his favorite TV show, Bluey. Soothing nursery rhymes are Mateo’s favorite songs.
Mateo’s condition does not allow him to use his feet when riding a bike, so he is hoping to acquire a hand trike. This specialized option will give Mateo great joy.
Update:

Thanks to the generosity of The Scaife Family Foundation, Mateo has received his new hand trike! He is now able to ride alongside his friends and family. This adaptive bike gives Mateo the independence to explore, stay active, and join in on every adventure. We are deeply grateful to the foundation for fueling Mateo’s freedom and bringing this big milestone to life.
