Wheelchairs 4 Kids proudly offers four programs that improve the lives of children with physical disabilities and their families.

All of these programs serve our community at no charge to our Wheel Kid families

Let’s Roll

Our flagship program, Let’s Roll provides wheelchairs, home and vehicle modifications, as well as other necessary medical equipment, that may otherwise be out of financial reach.

Many children with physical disabilities in the United States are in wheelchairs that are too small, in disrepair, and unfit for their needs. Just like children outgrow their shoes, they also outgrow their mobility equipment, often before government or insurance programs will allow for a replacement. Not only is it unsafe for a child to use inadequate equipment, but it can also negatively impact their health in numerous ways.

Additionally, families are often faced with trying to care for their special needs children in homes that have not been modified to meet their specific circumstances, or by using vehicles that are unable to transport their necessary medical equipment.

The Facilities program is a sub-program of Let’s Roll. Through this service, we donate gently used items from our equipment closet to schools, clinics, and other facilities where they can be used to benefit multiple children.

Once a child has received equipment through Let’s Roll, they become one of our fondly named “Wheel Kids,” which allows them to participate in our three other programs.

Wheely Fun Days

Our Wheely Fun Days program focuses on inclusion and socialization by hosting confidence-building, accessible, and extraordinary experiences for our Wheel Kids. Children with physical disabilities are often left out of birthday parties, school trips, and other social events due to their accessibility needs. Wheely Fun Days give them and opportunity make connections with Wheel Kids just like them, as well as break the ice with their peers.

Our Wheel Kids go waterskiing, ziplining, and indoor skydiving. They attend Tampa Bay Buccaneers Training Camp, sled hockey clinics with the Lightning Community Hockey Development team, and live WWE events. They make memories that will last a lifetime at adaptive summer camps, Christmas parties, and Halloween festivals. We’ve even brought them downhill skiing in Colorado! No matter what event they’re attending, Wheely Fun Days give our Wheel Kids the opportunity to do what they do best – be kids!

Wheelchairs 4 Kids Scholarship

The Scholarship Program was established to address education and independence. Our Wheel Kids deserve the opportunity grow, expand their world, and develop the tools they need to get good jobs. Wheelchairs 4 Kids’ Scholarship Program addresses this need by providing tuition assistance to Wheel Kids planning to pursue continued education or vocational training.

These Scholarships are named and granted in honor of four integral members of our team who we have lost: Lonnie Robinson (Founder), Lisa Schmidt (Director of Development), Chris Lehman (Feature Writer), Kimberly Knorr (Founding President).

Compassion Program

As we’ve grown, Wheelchairs 4 Kids has faced the reality of loss more each year, leading to the creation of our Compassion Program. It is heart-breaking when families who are experiencing the worst days of their lives reach out asking if we know anyone who can assist with final expenses. Our Compassion Program provides up to $1,000 toward these costs.
