Meet Hansel!

Eleven-year-old Hansel is a remarkable boy whose strength and determination inspire everyone around him. He loves spending time outdoors, listening to birds chirping, and exploring books about forests, woods, and gnomes.
In March 2019, Hansel experienced a devastating near-drowning accident that resulted in Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), a serious brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain. Despite facing incredible challenges, Hansel has continued to defy expectations. Doctors once questioned whether he would survive, but Hansel has shown extraordinary resilience every step of the way.
Today, Hansel is making progress in his own unique ways. He has begun gaining some movement and vision, and recently brought tears of joy to his family’s eyes when he said “Mom” for the first time since his accident. It was a moment they will never forget.
Those who know Hansel describe him as loving, smart, and incredibly strong. His journey is a testament to perseverance, hope, and the power of unconditional love.
Hansel is currently in need of a tilt-in-space wheelchair to provide the support, comfort, and positioning he needs to safely participate in daily activities. A new wheelchair will help improve his quality of life and allow him to continue making progress while enjoying the world around him.
