Meet John!

John Woodson

John is an adventurous 11-year-old who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 8. He is confined to a power-wheelchair but still refuses to be imprisoned by disability and enjoys the vibrancy of outdoor activities. He loves the serenity of fishing. He also feels refreshed and invigorated after a day of swimming. When outdoor excitement rouses hunger’s call, John loves a salad followed by Italian pasta or zesty barbecue. A meal might be accompanied by his favorite music, pop or country. In fact, John is at heart a southern country boy. I wonder…can wheelchairs have fat tires and mudflaps? That would be the stuff of country dreams for a boy like John!

In reality, John needs a special shower chair. His mom is developing a sore back from transferring John to the shower. This will relieve some of her growing back pain and be much safer for John. Until then she will continue to transfer John like a true champion. Her back is sore, but her love is unbreakable.
