Meet Derek!

Derek is an old soul in a twelve-year-old’s body, who loves music, reading, and cooking. Derek was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at birth. Despite the complications that come with his diagnosis, he remains loving and compassionate to everyone who has the pleasure of knowing him.

Derek’s favorite color is blue, and he loves watching the Mario and Sonic movies. His favorite thing to read currently is manga anime, and he enjoys listening to music, specifically the song Calm Down by Rema and Selena Gomez. He loves going to arcades to play video games and visiting his family in Puerto Rico. He is really passionate about cooking and baking, continuing to learn new skills in his favorite class, Culinary.

Derek received an adaptive tricycle specially suited to his physical needs, allowing him to safely ride, stay active, and participate in family bike rides. Thanks to the generous support of Athletes Helping Athletes, Derek now has greater opportunities to engage at school, at home, and in the community while gaining valuable exercise, confidence, and independence.
