Maia’s Success Story
Meet Maia! She is a very intelligent 11-year-old young lady diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, which limits her to her wheelchair most of the time. Her all-time favorite movie is Avatar, and she loves watching soccer, drawing, and reading. Maia is a huge fan of the Percy Jackson series of books.
Maia recently suffered from an acute aspiration which led to severe lung failures. As a result, she is on a trach/vent 24/7. Her current wheelchair fits poorly and does not accommodate her medically necessary equipment. Her PT has recommended a new manual wheelchair that will allow Maia to safely attend school and doctor appointments.
Thanks to the Tampa Bay Rays, Derek Teele Foundation, Saunders, Ronnie Bryant, and Dana Beck, Maia has received her new manual wheelchair!
