Meet Thomas!

Meet seven-year-old Thomas! Thomas is a strong and sweet young boy who continues to show kindness and resilience despite the many challenges he has faced. Diagnosed with Papilledema, a condition caused by increased pressure around the brain that leads to swelling of the optic nerve, Thomas has already undergone two shunt surgeries, including a lumboperitoneal shunt, a device placed in the body to help drain excess fluid and relieve pressure on the brain and spinal cord. Despite everything he has endured, Thomas remains incredibly brave, determined, and full of joy.
Thomas loves watching Pokémon, Super Mario, and Minecraft movies. He enjoys listening to music, especially bands like AC/DC and The Dead South. In his free time, Thomas likes collecting Pokémon cards, practicing his karate moves, and visiting the LEGO Store. Some of his favorite foods are pizza and chicken fingers from Raising Cane’s. Thomas also shares a special bond with his emotional support dog, Maui, who brought him comfort and companionship during his long hospital stays and recovery after surgery.

Thomas received an adaptive tricycle because riding a traditional bike is unsafe due to coordination and visual-motor impairments affecting his left side. This adaptive tricycle will allow Thomas to ride safely while helping him build strength, confidence, and independence, while creating more opportunities for fun, exploration, and joy. Thanks to the generosity of his sponsors, Zervos and Calta, Thomas and his family now have access to equipment that will make a meaningful, life-changing difference in his everyday life.
