Meet Akiem!

Meet 8-year-old Akiem! Akiem is a loving and kind-hearted little boy. When he was an infant, he was found unresponsive as a result of shaken baby syndrome, which caused him to have a traumatic brain injury and left side weakness. Doctors told the family he would never be able to walk or talk (But he can do both!). He had to have tendon lengthening surgery in 2023 because he was a toe-walker and lacks coordination and balance.

Akiem is a curious and smart kid! He loves to problem-solve and even if things are difficult for him, he finds a way to get them accomplished! Akiem is a big fan of the children’s series Danny Go! He enjoys listening to the music and dancing along to the beat. His favorite outing is going to his local park, where he enjoys the swings. Akiem is a calm soul who prefers to stay inside most days and go on his tablet- whether it’s playing games or watching videos. Perhaps Akiem’s greatest trait is how affectionate he is. He loves to give hugs and kisses and his cheerful smile can make even the darkest day seem bright!

Akiem is in need of a therapy bike. This bike will aid in coordination, balance, and endurance, while also promoting bi-lateral lower extremity strength.  Because of his TBI, a trike will be useful in rehabilitation and increase his range of mobility. Please be his sponsor!
