Meet Drecinia!

Drecinia is a twelve-year-old who was diagnosed with hereditary spastic paraplegia at age two. The condition Drecinia struggles with everyday does not allow her to be mobile without the assistance of a wheelchair and she is non-verbal, so she cannot speak without a communication device.

Drecinia is a music fan. Her current favorite type of music is Spanish; and the artist she most enjoys is Junior H. She also enjoys art, shopping at Burlington Coat Factory with her sister, Ciandra, and playing with her makeup collection in her spare time. Drecinia’s family describes her as loving, caring and sensitive.

Drecinia needs a new wheelchair since she is continuing to grow. Her current wheelchair is unable to assist her with changes of medical status such as loss of head, neck, trunk and abdominal control. A new wheelchair will also allow her to be transported to school, home and the community with proper positioning.

Update:

We are thrilled to share that Drecinia has a brand-new wheelchair, bringing her newfound freedom and comfort!

This life-changing gift was made possible through the incredible generosity of The Macchia Family Foundation and The William Cissell Foundation. Thanks to their wonderful sponsorships, Drecinia can now safely and comfortably explore the world alongside her sister, Ciandra.

We extend our deepest gratitude to both foundations for their support and dedication to making a difference in our community!
