Meet Mariam!
Meet 6-year-old Mariam! Mariam has a rare form of muscular dystrophy called Bethlem Myopathy, which is caused by a defect in collagen type VI. Mariam was able to walk independently until just a few years ago, then she gradually lost her ability due to muscle weakness and contractures. She uses a gait trainer and a wheelchair for long distances.
Mariam adores Disney Princesses, her favorites being Moana and Rapunzel. She loves to sing along to all her favorite Disney tunes and dreams of one day becoming a princess herself! She speaks Georgian but is learning English at school. Mariam has a big imagination and loves to play with her Barbies and other dolls. She is very intelligent and social and enjoys being around others. Much like her beloved Princesses, she is a fighter and never gives up on her ambitions!
