Kathleen gets a roll in shower!
May 2014: Kathleen received a new roll in shower from Wheelchairs 4 Kids!
Kathleen or rather “Katie” is a precious nine-year-old girl who suffers from the ravages of Atypical Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (NAD). The disease slowly deteriorates muscular and neurological functioning. There is no treatment for the illness, which has greatly affected Katie. She is gradually losing motor control and cannot sit upright or support her head. She also endures very frightening muscle spasms. For Katie, each day is a struggle as she battles for a fun childhood.
Katie really needed an accessible bathroom. Her old bathroom did not have an accessible shower and so her family did not have a safe way to bathe her. Now, Katie has a barrier free shower in place of her normal shower which provides the ability to roll in a shower chair and gives her a safe shower for bathing. The modification will also make things easier for her family and caregivers. Wheelchairs 4 Kids was able to make this possible through the amazing work and generosity of Greaves Construction! A huge thank you to Greaves Construction for their kindness and help in giving Katie the accessibility she deserves!
Katie enjoys listening to the popular mega-hit artists Taylor Swift and Britney Spears. Like most other girls, she is also eager to play “dress-up.” She feels extra pretty putting on make-up and fixing her nails and hair, but she is always beautiful! Most importantly, Kathleen’s family adores her. Kathleen and her uncle love the trampoline. He holds her tightly and they laugh and giggle with every springy bounce!
