Meet Damien!
Meet 13-year-old Damien! Damien was diagnosed with Hunter’s Syndrome, a rare and progressive genetic disorder that causes large sugar molecules to build up in body tissue. This affects both Damien’s physical and mental abilities. Damien’s joints have stiffened and he now requires a wheelchair because he would often fall.
Damien’s hobbies include watching Nickelodeon cartoons, such as Paw Patrol, Sponge Bob, and the Fairly Odd Parents. His favorite movies are from the Disney/Pixar collection. He loves to swim and is happiest when he is in and around water! Despite Damien’s challenges, he remains a fighter who chooses to never give up. His fiery energy is contagious to all who come in contact with him!
Damien is in need of a wheelchair ramp for his home so he can safely enter and exit his house. Please be his sponsor!
Damien’s family reached for help in having a ramp built on their property to make access into their home easier. Wheelchairs 4 Kids partnered with Harmar, a company specializing in ramps and lifts, and a local installer in Damien’s area, 101 Mobility, they were able to safely and efficiently instal a ramp to make his entryway more accessible! Thanks to help of generous donors, Damien now has an amazing aluminum ramp that provides him safe access into his home, where he can now roll with ease without the burden of his caregivers constantly lifting him out of his chair or having to bump down the steps.
Damien’s mom, Britta, shared: “It (the ramp) makes going out for family walks easier in the afternoons, being able to roll Damien in his wheelchair, instead of struggling to help him bump his bottom down the steps. Especially in the winter months, it will be safer, when there is ice and snow on the ground.”
