Meet Wade!
Meet nine-year-old Wade. He was diagnosed with spinal muscular dystrophy. He has limited mobility and requires assistance with everyday living skills. Wade also suffers from seizure disorder. He has more challenges, but this brave boy remains happy.
Wade has some cool interests. He is a super fan of all things Scooby Doo, and his favorite character is Shaggy. He listens to 80’s music, including songs from the group Loverboy. Wade loves playing music and having dance parties with his siblings. He likes watching sports with his mom and dad—his favorite teams are the Buccaneers and Broncos. Most importantly, Wade is described as a sweet boy. He likes being silly and messing around with his siblings to make them laugh. He is also very smart and figures out ways to communicate even though he is nonverbal—he shows excitement by wiggling. Meet Wade. His name describes him best. Wonderful. Adorable. Delightful. Exciting!

When Wade’s family reached out to Wheelchairs 4 Kids, we took action. Partnering with Integrity Home Improvement and People’s Church, Wheelchairs 4 Kids worked to build a custom wheelchair-accessible shower in Wade’s home. Thanks to the generosity of donors and the dedication of these partners, Wade now has a safe, spacious shower that accommodates his specialized shower chair, giving him the dignity and comfort he deserves.
Wade’s mother, Nici, expressed her gratitude: “Wade wasn’t able to fit into the shower before. We had to give him bed baths, which were messy and ineffective. The remodeled shower now gives us so much space—it fits his shower chair and gives us room to move around him. Words can’t describe how appreciative we are. Wade enjoys being in the shower, and we’re so thankful to be able to clean him safely.”
This project highlights the profound impact that community support and collaboration can have on a family in need. Through the combined efforts of Wheelchairs 4 Kids, Integrity Home Improvement, People’s Church, and the kindness of donors, Wade’s daily life has been transformed.
