Meet Mikayla!
Meet 14-year-old Mikayla! Mikayla was adopted as a baby and mom knew she had some delays, but it wasn’t until her 9th birthday when she was officially diagnosed with hereditary spastic paraplegia, which causes her severe leg spasms and weakness in her lower extremities. In addition, she also has bladder and swallowing issues, which will require upcoming surgery.
Despite Mikayla’s hardships, she remains optimistic! She is a very creative soul, who although she is non-verbal, expresses herself through art. She loves to draw, paint and make clay creations. She enjoys putting on makeup, as she also considers it an artform. Mikayla is a Disney girl at heart. She loves to visit the Magic Kingdom, ride the roller coasters, and watch her favorite fireworks show, “Happily Ever After.” She even has the song downloaded and listens to it daily. When you meet Mikayla, you can sense her magical wonder and love for life!
Mikayla received a new power wheelchair. Her current chair was too wide to make turns into her room and into the entrance of her house. Special thanks to Sunshine Health for being her sponsor. Mikayla’s mom said she loves it and is especially thankful she can now move freely throughout her house!
